I grew up around motorcycles and have been riding for over 42 years and on the street for over 36 years. I have an appreciation for all motorcycles, but I have a soft spot for vintage Japanese bikes.
My father was a motorcycle mechanic while attending college in the early 70s. Both father and my grandfather were both big influences on me and were riding Hondas when I was in elementary school. I have incredible memories of riding behind my dad on a new 1973 Honda CB 750 and my grandfather being ahead of us on his 1973 CB350F. In 1978 when I was old enough to get a motorcycle license I went from being his passenger to his riding buddy. My father, stepmother and I spent many hours riding around central Oklahoma on summer evenings. In the summer of 1980 we took our first motorcycle vacation. We rode about 2000 miles in a weeks time, dad on a 1979 Kawasaki KZ750 and me on a 1979 Honda Twinstar.
In 1984 while in the Army stationed in Nuremberg Germany I purchased a 1981 Yamaha Seca 750 and rode it everywhere I went for about a year. I was riding that bike in the freezing rain and snow on many occasions. My roommate had a 1983 Honda 650 Night Hawk and together we rode all over southern Germany and had some incredible adventures. I have been in the Antelope Valley since May of 1986. In the 28 plus years that I have been in the area I have come to the conclusion that we have some of the best motorcycling roads in the world at our doorstep. With the Pacific Coast Highway, Angeles Crest, Rim of the World, Bouquet Canyon, Pine Canyon just to name a few surrounding us we can ride some awesome roads and always be within 2 hours of home.
